The Christian Chamber of Greater Miami (CCOGM) held its inaugural event on Wednesday, April 15th with a lunch at Devon Seafood restaurant in Kendall. The event was extremely well attended by over one hundred and thirty business professionals from the Miami area representing various faiths and cultures.
CCOGM offers guidance, encouragement and opportunities for all people of faith to serve the community. The goal of this organization is for business leaders to provide needed resources and mentorship to the under resourced children/future leaders attending our local schools. The contributions of CCOGM will allow children to experience learning success and become lifelong learners and contributing members of our community and the world while experiencing God’s love.
CCOGM has been started by Kent Crook who has been serving South Florida for over 30 years as a successful business owner. His commitment to the community has led him to serve on boards for several business organizations. He is a trustee and board member of Chamber South, a member of the Pinecrest Business Association, Palmetto Bay Business Association, Greater Chamber of Commerce, Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and Greater Kendall Business Association. In the health field, he is second Vice Chair of CHI (Community Health Center of South Florida) and a member of the Associates of South Miami Hospital. He was Chair of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in West Kendall. In education, he has been a member of EESAC (Educational Excellence School Advisory Council) of Miami Palmetto Senior High. He has donated both his time and solar energy tools to both the Miami-Dade College Environmental Research Center, Terra Environmental Research Institute and LED lighting and solar panels to Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart to help educate the students on the fundamentals of solar energy and its long-term positive effects on the environment. In the conservation field, he is on the Board of Directors of Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy and a member of the U.S Green Building Council.
CCOGM will help raise awareness and much needed help for several wonderful organizations in our community starting with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Christ Fellowship’s Backpack Program and Read 2 Succeed.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes vision is to see every person in the South Florida Counties of Miami-Dade and Monroe impacted through the influence of coaches and athletes.
With 1 out of 4 children in South Florida going to bed hungry each night, the Christ Fellowship’s Backpack Program partners with local businesses and other organizations to feed hungry children in our community.
Read2Succeed strives to create a stronger community by decreasing the illiteracy rates in children and help all minority families become self-sufficient. Read2Succeed is a community partnership that empowers youth and families by providing academic enrichment, educational & literacy services.
