CORAL GABLES, Florida — No. 24 Miami held off Louisville, 78-75, in a back-and-forth overtime affair Wednesday night at the Watsco Center.
Lonnie Walker led all scorers with 25 points, and his block on Louisville’s Ryan McMahon with three seconds left sealed the win for the Hurricanes.
The loss snapped Louisville’s four-game winning streak and dropped the Cards into third place in the ACC. There were 14 lead changes and eight ties.
“Come on the road, you play well enough to win and you just get beat on a couple offensive rebounds,” interim Louisville coach David Padgett said. “We felt like we had a chance there.”
Louisville (15-5, 5-2) got a team-high 18 points from Quentin Snider and 15 points off the bench from Anas Mahmoud. Junior Ray Spalding nearly notched his ninth double-double of the season with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Deng Adel, Louisville’s leading scorer this season, finished with 14 points but was just 4 of 16 from the field.
The Cards led by seven points in the second half and held a late lead, but Walker’s acrobatic right-handed layup over Mahmoud, a 7-foot center, tied the game with four seconds left.
Miami (15-4, 4-3) took the lead late in the overtime period and twice held off Louisville’s comeback attempts. Center Dewan Huell added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Hurricanes, who’ve won two consecutive games.
