Deadline reports Fox has bought a Miami-set drama that is executive produced by none other than Miami-born-and-raised rapper Pitbull. Weirdly, the pilot will not be titled Dale. Instead, the project is called 305—Miami’s area code—and was written by Sascha Penn (Survivor’s Remorse and Power) and directed by Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies). Fox has bought the project with a script commitment plus penalty.
305 follows Willy, a young man who is pulled from his rundown high school and sent to live with his uncle, who happens to be a celebrity chef in Miami. Willy tries to acclimate to his new life at one of Miami’s most elite private schools and finds himself living out the phrase “more money, more problems”—or at least differentproblems. Thanks to Rosewood, Miami is a hot destination for Fox right now. Pitbull also seems intent on launching a television career, as evidenced by his recent foray into reality television. He is also set to appear on the current season of Empire. He will play himself and, in true Pitbull form, be the featured artist on an Empire Entertainment track: Jamal’s new song, “No Doubt About It.”
