Standing Rock Elementary School and Standing Rock Middle School have been part of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ national Turnaround Arts program, which helps incorporate the arts into K-12 curriculum. Now 11 students have the opportunity to perform at the program’s talent show this Sunday.
The students plan to showcase a song written by a member of pop group the Black Eyes Peas and a hip hop artist from the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe.
Student Alice Brownotter will be performing a traditional dance in the show. She tells the Bismarck Tribune that it’s cool to be recognized as a reservation school.
