Valrico is getting its first brewery in Bullfrog Creek Brewing Co.
With a targeted opening of March, the veteran-owned brewery — whose name should signal something like, “Whoa, this place is real local,” to anyone familiar with the east Hillsborough area — started taking shape at 3632 Lithia Pinecrest Road last year.
After some homebrew experimentation in a humble two-car garage, the guys behind Bullfrog Creek decided to take a leap of faith on a brewery. The team consists of founder Jamie Ratcliff, production manager Chanse Haas and head brewer Matt Morrow.
The beer styles that the trio enjoys come down to personal preference, but they are diverse, which is why the brewery plans to carry a crowd-pleasing lineup of taps in its tasting room.
A 2.5-barrel nanobrewing system named Penny will serve as Bullfrog Creek’s main system (for a while, anyway), allowing for up to 25 barrels of beer per week with help from eight fermenters. There’s also Kermit, a half-barrel pilot system reserved for limited-release brews and small batches of test recipes.
