Three state champions headline The News & Observer’s All-Metro boys golf team. Pinecrest’s A.J. Beechler won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A title, Jackson Van Paris – an eighth grader – won the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A/2A title and Fike’s Bryson Boyette won the NCHSAA 3A title.

It was almost four. Ravenscroft’s Ryan Gerard lost a playoff for the NCISAA 3A championship. The state champion Ravens had three players on the team, while NCHSAA 4A champ Pinecrest had two and 4A runner-up Green Hope had two.

There were 10 members of the team, and all finished their championship rounds with scores of 1-over or lower.

Gerard, a North Carolina recruit, was one of two three-time selections, joining Lee County’s Dalton Mauldin.
