Henry Flagler, Miami pioneer and railroad tycoon needed property as a staging area for the Overseas Railroad to the Florida Keys in the early 1900s. The property was located at SW 102 Street and US 1. As the community grew in the 1930s, Parrot Jungle and Gardens was the first tourist attraction the Miami. This became a world famous tourist attraction and Sir Winston Churchill was known to visit. The property was located on SW 111 Street at Red Road consisting of twenty acres was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 and today is the site of Pinecrest Gardens. The official incorporation of the Village of Pinecrest was on March 12, 1996 and has over 18,000 residents and is recognized in the nation as a Community of Respect, a Tree City USA and a Playful City USA. Pinecrest is known in Florida as one of the ten best places for “quality of life” in the 2011 issue of South Florida Business Journal.

There are four Public Schools in Pinecrest two Elementary, a Middle and a Senior High. There are six Private Schools with choices of Preparatory to Religious.

Pinecrest has many shopping centers and plazas to choose from for every shopper. Dadeland Mall, with over 185 stores and restaurants is Miami’s most iconic and original shopping experience, it also has patio seating on the upper level with sensational views overlooking Downtown Dadeland.

Pinecrest is unlike other cities because of its large leafy lots with space, privacy and amenities that include edible gardens, lush landscaping, entertaining areas and pools. The village initiated a Green Action Plan for schools and infrastructure because of its progressive mindset. Pinecrest even has a Green Market on Sundays at the Pinecrest Gardens sanctuary and event space on the National historic register.
